TWO men were found drowned after the pickup truck they were travelling in was swept away by strong currents while attempting to cross the Moroli River in Kampung Narawang, Sabah on Saturday morning
The victims, aged 69 and 61, were reported missing after their Ford Ranger failed to navigate the river’s rapid flow.
Rantey Fred, Assistant Fire Officer at the Ranau Fire and Rescue Station, said emergency services received a call from a member of the public at 10.22 am. A team was immediately dispatched to the scene, approximately 20 kilometres from the station, using fire engines.
“Upon arrival, the public informed us that the vehicle was found about 200 metres from where it had been swept away, but both occupants were not inside,” he said.
A search and rescue operation was launched with the assistance of 25 villagers and two police officers from the Ranau District Police Headquarters.
“The first victim was found drowned at 11.18 am, roughly 10 kilometres from where the vehicle went missing. Shortly after, the second victim was located at 11.48 am, about one kilometre from the first victim’s position,” Rantey Fred added. - November 1, 2025
