THE Digital Ministry is reviewing key components for the development of a national blockchain policy and strategic direction, aimed at strengthening efficiency, security and transparency across government operations, industry and public services.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the assessment is crucial as blockchain technology is becoming increasingly essential for managing data and digital transactions at the national level.
“The Digital Ministry is examining the main components needed for developing a national blockchain policy and direction, encompassing the adaptation of blockchain technology to enhance efficiency, security and transparency in government administration, industry and public sectors,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
He added that the ministry also sees potential for broader blockchain adoption in public administration to reduce leakages and improve the integrity of processes.
“The application of blockchain technology through tokenisation will also be studied, particularly in asset management and capital market development, to ensure transaction security and stability within the digital ecosystem,” Gobind said.
He explained that a regulatory framework for asset tokenisation is being jointly developed by the Securities Commission Malaysia and Bank Negara Malaysia, to prioritise consumer protection and market stability.
Previously, the Digital Ministry established the National Blockchain Policy Task Force to identify strategic priorities and study the ethical, legal and social implications of the technology.
These efforts are expected to form the foundation of a new national roadmap once the current National Blockchain Roadmap 2021–2025 concludes at the end of this year. - November 3, 2025
