GENTING Malaysia Bhd has confirmed that there will be a fee charged for vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands from a date to be announced.

The company said in a statement that further information on the matter will be announced as soon as details on the fees for this private road (Private Road Charge) is available.

Genting Malaysia stressed that the fee for using the private road is necessary as the maintenance costs of the 24-kilometre stretch and its slopes have been borne entirely by the company since the 1960s.

Jalan Genting Highlands, which was privately built by Genting Malaysia in the winding and mountainous terrain, provides safe access to Resorts World Genting as well as mountain destinations beyond Genting Malaysia.

"The frequent use of Jalan Genting Highlands has caused a lot of damage and requires ongoing maintenance to ensure the safety of road users," the company said

On the "user pays" principle, Genting Malaysia said charging for use on private roads is the most viable method to cover the costs of maintenance, repairs, upkeep and other unforeseen incidents.

"This is to ensure that the road remains safe for all users, and provides access to the entire Genting Highlands community, businesses, millions of tourists and the public from all over the country," he said.

The company said this is a private initiative on a private road and land.

"Genting Malaysia takes the responsibility of maintaining road and slope safety seriously.

"Conducting work in mountainous areas is challenging, dangerous and expensive, but it is important to ensure road and slope safety for continuous improvement for all users," it said.

In addition, the company also places teams in the middle and on the top of the hill on standby at all times for any unforeseen circumstances with trained emergency response teams in the event of accidents and incidents.

Genting Malaysia stressed that this road is important in catalyzing the tourism industry here, thus contributing to opportunities for enterprises and jobs, creating a vibrant local economy and contributing to the economy of the state of Pahang and the national economy.

The Genting Highlands road has also provided opportunities for the existence of other mountain destinations other than those managed by the Genting Malaysia group, contributing to a dynamic tourism industry. - November 13, 2025
