THE final sitting of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today was marred by chaos when the opposition raised a viral issue involving an alleged affair between a man's wife and an assemblyman.
The issue was raised by Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis (PN–Rembia) during his adjournment speech, referring to a police report by a man who claimed his wife was having an affair with an assemblyman.
The statement by the Secretary of the Melaka PAS Liaison Body sparked a war of words between the government and opposition blocs, forcing the intervention of Deputy Speaker, Kerk Chee Yee.
Kerk raised Standing Order 20(1)(m)(1) against Muhammad Jailani for making malicious allegations and personal attacks on a member of the assembly.
The incident culminated when State Government Exco, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh (BN–Merlimau) who stood up slammed the allegations while describing Muhammad Jailani's actions as irresponsible.
"He should have raised the issues of the people in Rembia, not this absurd thing. Next time if you want to raise an issue, raise the issues that the people want to hear.
It is not a trivial issue that touches on other people’s privacy,” he said.
Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem (BN–Duyong) who then intervened, revealed that the woman linked to the allegations had also filed a police report denying the defamation, besides the case being tried in court.
“Rembia violated Standing Orders 20(1)(g) for bringing an issue that has already been brought to court, and at the same time making malicious allegations against other members of the assembly,” he said.
Muhammad Jailani's attitude, which was allegedly trying to tarnish the image of the House, was also criticized by government assemblymen including Datuk Rais Yasin (BN–Paya Rumput), Datuk Abd Razak Abd Rahman (BN–Telok Mas), Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem (BN–Machap Jaya), Datuk VP Shanmugam (BN–Gadek) and Datuk Zaidi Attan (BN–Serkam).
Kerk then ordered Muhammad Jailani's speech to be stopped immediately before the session continued with an adjournment speech by Datuk Siti Faizah Abd Azis (BN–Sungai Rambai). – December 10, 2025
