DATUK M. Saravanan said Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should not assume that he would win over Indian support by attacking the MIC.
"He will be surprised over the support we actually have on the ground," said the MIC deputy president.
He said he was in fact 'happy' that the Barisan Nasional chairman spoke about MIC at every annual general meeting of other parties he attends.
"We have heard him taking about us at Makkal Sakti, IPF and other party AGMs.
"Well, we thank him for that and hopes he will continue doing it ... there are about six other Indian parties in the country," he said.
Earlier, the deputy prime minister said BN will decide if MIC cannot make up its mind once and for all if the party wants to stay or exit the country's oldest political coalition.
He said that MIC seems to be edging BN to the corner over reports that it will leave the coalition.
"If they (MIC) cannot decide, we will decide for them," Ahmad Zahid said after officiating at the 17th Makkal Sakti annual general meeting (AGM) in Penang.
Ahmad Zahid said that loyalty was an utmost priority, especially when BN was down.
On when the MIC plans on holding its central working committee meeting to decide on the party's future, Saravanan said the decision was up to party president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran. - December 21, 2025
