UMNO Youth's suggestion to strengthen the unification of the two parties for the sake of religion, race and the Malays has been well received by PAS.

PAS Perlis Deputy Commissioner III, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, via a post on Facebook, expressed his readiness to work with UMNO through Muafakat Nasional.

"Brother Akmal Saleh (UMNO Youth Chief, Datuk Dr Mohamad Akmal Saleh), PAS is ready to work with UMNO in Muafakat Nasional. Greetings to DS (Datuk Seri) Zahid Hamidi (UMNO President)," he said briefly on Saturday.

Yesterday, at the UMNO Youth Special Convention, Mohamad Akmal urged the party to withdraw from the Unity government in addition to expressing a proposal to unite with PAS.

He said the intention of the unification was to ensure that Malay political strength was maintained in the country's increasingly challenging political landscape.

The convention, themed "UMNO's Direction in the Unity Government", was attended by about 2,000 members who openly and boldly voiced their views, including re-evaluating the party's position in the current government. – January 4, 2026
