THE National Unity Index (IPNas) score increased from 0.567 in 2018 to 0.629 in 2022.
National Unity Minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, said the 2022 IPNas score shows that national unity is at a good and controlled level.
He said the IPNas score is divided into four categories, namely weak unity level (0.0-0.24), low unity level (0.25-0.49), moderate unity level (0.50-0.74) and high unity level (0.75-1.0).
“The measurement of this index value allows the Government to identify and plan related efforts and intervention programs,” he said in a written answer posted on the Parliament website yesterday.
He was responding to a question from Datuk Jonathan Yasin (GRS-Ranau) regarding whether the ministry had conducted an attitude study on why unity among the country's diverse people is increasingly lacking and what steps can be taken to overcome the problem.
He added that through IPNas, the governance and development aspects are most important in increasing the level of unity among Malaysians because it greatly influences the achievement of the level of unity.
“Therefore, initiatives by all ministries and government agencies must be multiplied to improve IPNas,” he said.
He said that for this year, the ministry plans to implement a study of the Community Tension Index and a study of the Civil Servant Patriotism Index.
“The results of this study will be used as a benchmark to ensure that every unity policy that is formulated is based on data and can have a real impact on social stability and the sustainability of national unity,” he said. – January 21, 2026
