GEORGE TOWN – Pakatan Harapan will hold discussions on the formation of the grand opposition coalition in January, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said today.
He said DAP agrees that the opposition parties need to unite and work together to win the upcoming general election.
“If we unite, we will have more chances to win and oppose Perikatan Nasional,” he said.
“Maybe we will meet and discuss matters first in January,” he said when met during his ferry trip at the Raja Uda terminal here.
Pejuang deputy president Marzuki Yahya and Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal had earlier suggested that the opposition parties should form a new pact called the “grand coalition”.
It was welcomed by Amanah, which saw it as a new strategy to prepare for the 15th general election.
The proposal, however, caused an uneasy reaction from Selangor PKR Youth, who refused to accept the involvement of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the founder of Pejuang and Langkawi MP.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim was recently reported to have said that PH could collaborate with any party, even Mahathir, but they would need to follow PH’s principles and not bring their personal agendas or carry on with detrimental actions from the past. – The Vibes, December 31, 2020
