THE MALAYSIAN-Anti Corruption Agency has detained a government director-general and director for alleged corruption.
The arrests mark the second wave of MACC's crackdown on alleged corruption and integrity breaches involving government departments.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the duo were detained today when they presented themselves at the MACC headquarters to have their statements recorded.
Azam also said the MACC will be recommending criminal charges against the Environment Department's top two officials to the deputy public prosecutor this Friday.
He said investigations were in the final leg of their probe, and the papers were expected to be handed to the deputy public prosecutor with recommendations to charge both of them.
The environment department director-general and his deputy were among four people remanded by MACC as part of investigations into allegations of abuse of power and corruption involving e-waste management.
IJM probe: MACC working closely with the UK
Azam also mentioned that MACC is working closely with the United Kingdom's Serious Fraud Office (SFO) in its ongoing investigation into IJM Corporation Bhd over alleged money laundering involving RM2.5 billion.
He said the British agency is conducting its own probe into the matter, with both sides maintaining active communication.
"We are now coordinating with them. Certain procedures must be followed in gathering evidence, but I do not foresee any major issues," he added.
It was earlier reported that MACC had detained the Chairman of IJM Corporation Berhad in connection with a case involving corporate governance issues, procurement processes, financial transactions and ownership of overseas assets estimated to be worth about RM2.5 billion. - February 11, 2026
