TRAFFIC along major expressways, including border crossings, was reported to be smooth and under control as of 9.14 am today, following the implementation of heavy and goods vehicle driving restrictions by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for the Chinese New Year celebrations.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) confirmed in a statement that traffic conditions on the North-South Expressway (NSE) across the northern, central and southern stretches were flowing well, while toll highways around the Klang Valley also experienced no significant congestion.
Some rain was reported in areas across the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, but it did not appear to affect the overall traffic movement. "In the East Coast, traffic on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway, LPT1 and LPT2 (E8) is also moving smoothly without disruption in either direction," LLM stated.
The authority added that traffic on all major highways, including at border checkpoints, remained controlled and manageable at present. LLM urged motorists to stay attentive, maintain safe distances, remain vigilant for any obstacles, and signal appropriately before changing lanes.
"Members of the public can access up-to-date traffic information via the 24-hour hotline 1800-88-7752, the WhatsApp channel LLM Info Trafik, the LLM Facebook page, the official website [www.llm.gov.my](http://www.llm.gov.my), as well as through the TUJU and MYJalan applications," the statement said.
Earlier reports by Harian Metro noted that JPJ had imposed the driving ban on heavy and goods vehicles for the Chinese New Year period from February 14 to 15 and February 21 to 22 to reduce accident risks and maintain smooth traffic flow during the festive season.
JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli explained that the movement restrictions applied to vehicles in three categories: Category 1, prohibited at all times on the specified dates; Category 2, banned from 8 am to 8 pm; and Category 3, restricted from 6 pm to 6 am. - February 21, 2026
