TERENGGANU Infrastructure, Utilities and Rural Development Committee Chairman, Datuk Hanafiah Mat, said he has given full cooperation to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigations against him.

Hanafiah, who is also the Chukai State Assemblyman (ADUN), said that he had never avoided the ongoing legal process, with all the necessary documents submitted and statements given.

However, he explained that the investigation was not new, but had started several years ago.

“During that period, I have always been open and provided full cooperation to the authorities.

“I firmly hold to the principle that every individual has the right to justice and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court,” he said via his Facebook page.

The media previously reported that the MACC had arrested a Terengganu Exco to assist investigations for allegedly abusing his position by directing two of his children to be hired by a state-linked company

The assemblyman was arrested after appearing to give a statement at the MACC Kemaman Office for allegedly committing the act in 2018 and 2020.

Meanwhile, Hanafiah said that he understood that in the current political climate, various perceptions and speculations could arise.

However, he said, he chose not to comment on speculative matters and left it entirely to the legal process.

He added that he also believed that the people were capable of making fair assessments based on facts, without being influenced by unfounded perceptions.

“My focus remains on the trust and responsibility given by the people.

“I will not run away from that responsibility and will continue to carry out my duties with full integrity,” he said.

It is understood that Hanafiah will be charged in court following the MACC investigation at the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court today. – February 24, 2026
