SARATOK – Nine people drowned after a four-wheel drive vehicle they were in plunged into Sg Triso here. The vehicle had slipped off a ferry.

Police have released the names of the victims. They are:
- Siti Aishah Abdullah, 36
- Ronary Ting, 33 
- Nor Shuhaida Mohd, 16 
- Khairunisa Mohd, 14 
- Alwin Phang, 12
- Wallace Phang, 7
- Mohd Aiman Hamdan, 7
- Mustaqim Mohd Hamdan, 5
- Ahmad Mohd Hamdan, 4 months old

It is believed that they were travelling from Kapit to Kuching.

The 3.15pm incident happened in Saratok district about 300km north of Kuching city. 

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in its updates said the Saratok and Simunjan teams and medical personnel are on site now. 

“There are nine people inside the vehicle, five males and four females.”

“We received an emergency call from the public that a vehicle had plunged into the river from the Triso Ferry.

“A member of the public who recorded the incident on video showed that there were victims taken out of the river by members of the public.

“The video showed CPR being administered to the unconscious victims,” said the department. – The Vibes, January 1, 2021
