A 63-YEAR-OLD man facing five charges linked to a homemade improvised explosive device in Nilai has died in hospital while awaiting further court proceedings.
Yeoh Hock Sun, who had pleaded not guilty to all counts, died at 8.18pm at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), according to the Nilai District Police Chief, Superintendent Johari Yahya.
“At 8.30pm, the Nilai District Police Headquarters (IPD) was informed by an escort officer from Penjara Kajang that the male accused connected to the IED explosion case in the Desa Palma residential area had died at HKL.
“The cause of death was refractory shock, which is a state of shock that does not respond even though standard treatment has been optimally administered,” he said in a statement.
Court proceedings in the case had already been disrupted by the accused’s deteriorating health. A mention scheduled for 12 February was postponed after he was reported to be in critical condition in hospital.
Earlier, on 9 January, the charges were read to him at Hospital Tuanku Jaafar (HTJ), where he was receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the explosion. He entered a plea of not guilty to all five charges.
The case stems from an incident on 22 December, when residents of Desa Palma were startled by an explosion inside a car. The suspect was believed to have been attempting to move the device before fleeing the scene.
He was later found on 27 December in a weakened state, suffering burns to his face, hands and legs, in a wooded area near Batang Benar, Nilai. - February 28, 2026
