A TOTAL 13 Bersatu MPs support retaining Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as Opposition leader.

The matter was informed by Bersatu Dewan Rakyat Chief Whip, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, through a letter dated 24 February to Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chief Whip, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

“Among the 13 MPs who supported are Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Masjid Tanah), Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah), Datuk Rasol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu), Datuk Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (Kubang Pasu), and Datuk Muslimin Yahaya (Sungai Besar).

"Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah (Rompin), Datuk Khir Mohd Nor (Ketereh), Zakri Hassan (Kangar), Roslan Hashim (Kulim Bandar Baharu), Commander (R) Nordin Ahmad Ismail (Lumut), Kalam Salan (Sabak Bernam) and Islahuddin Abbas (Mersing) are also in support, "he said.

He added that Bersatu MPs will continue to focus and concentrate on raising the voice of the people.

"Bersatu MPs will also uphold national interests and play a responsible role of checks and balances, especially in the parliamentary session that has a few days left," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the Bersatu Disciplinary Board had sacked Hamzah from the party.

According to a notice issued by the Chairman of the Bersatu Disciplinary Board, Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan, Hamzah's sacking was because his actions violated Clause 9.1.4 of the party's constitution.

Takiyuddin, on February 22, stated that a candidate from PAS would be appointed as the new Opposition Leader to replace Hamzah.

However, he said that the coalition would not make any changes to the position of Opposition Leader for the time being. – March 2, 2026
