Three men electrocuted to death while trying to steal electrical cables

THREE men died after being electrocuted, believed to have been trying to steal cables in an open area in Taman Rapat Perdana, in Ipoh, today.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah, said police received information regarding the incident at the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) electricity pole area at 10 am.

He said, acting on information, a police team went to the scene and found three local men unconscious, who were later confirmed dead.

“Initial investigations found that the three men, aged between 35 and 50, were electrocuted while trying to cut an electric cable on a TNB pole.

“The bodies of the three men involved were sent to the Forensic Department of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death,” he said.

According to him, the deaths of all suspects have so far been classified as sudden deaths pending the results of the post-mortem reports.

“The investigation into this case is being conducted under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft.

"Anyone who has information about this incident can contact the Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 05-2451500 or the nearest police station," he said. – March 16, 2026
