A CONTRACTOR in Kuantan has reportedly suffered losses amounting to RM356,342 after falling victim to an online investment scam promoted through a website.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the 34-year-old victim lodged a report yesterday after coming across an advertisement for an investment scheme on 18 February via a website identified as ‘marinasand’.
He said the victim proceeded to register and participate in the scheme, which promised returns of 10 per cent on the investment.
“The victim carried out 16 money transfer transactions to five different bank accounts between 18 February and 19 March, involving a total amount of RM356,342.
“The victim only received an initial return of RM1,000 before failing to receive any further profits as promised.
“He also found that he could no longer access the investment website before realising he had been deceived. The victim’s funds came from his savings as well as company money,” he said in a statement today.
Yahaya said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
He advised the public to seek advice from the nearest police station before committing to any investment to avoid falling victim to scams.
Members of the public are also encouraged to verify bank account numbers through the official portal [https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my/](https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my/) before making any financial transactions.
Those who suspect they have been scammed are urged to contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 immediately. - March 22, 2026
