OFFICIALS have announced the government’s reinforced measures to regulate the sale and purchase of RON95 petrol to vehicles registered outside Malaysia, citing ongoing risks of fuel smuggling and rising import costs due to tensions in West Asia.
Speaking after a series of official engagements, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister (KPDN) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali outlined that the government’s collaboration with the Malaysia Retail Association (MRA) has ensured that essential imported goods remain sufficiently supplied despite rising logistics and packaging costs.
He said the engagement aimed to address the impact of global conflicts on supply stability and price security.
Under this aim, Armizam also chaired a meeting with the enforcement division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) to finalise preparations for the expanded enforcement of the ban on RON95 petrol transactions for foreign-registered vehicles.
Previously, legal responsibility fell solely on petrol station operators.
From April 1, 2026, this will extend to include drivers and vehicle owners, reinforcing earlier measures presented in Parliament on January 29, 2026.
“Everyone, whether petrol station operators or foreign vehicle users, must comply with this ban. KPDN will not compromise with any individuals, syndicates, or operators involved in smuggling or fuel subsidy abuse. Failure to comply will be met with strict legal action under the prevailing laws,” he stated.
Armizan also highlighted the launch of OPS Tiris 4.0, an integrated enforcement operation aimed at preventing fuel diversion and smuggling along border areas, which has become increasingly critical amid West Asia-related tensions.
He encouraged the public to assist authorities by reporting any suspicious activity connected to fuel smuggling, emphasising that collective vigilance will help safeguard public interests.
