THE Malaysian Army has warned that any personnel unable to control their emotions and resorting to violence against fellow soldiers are unfit to serve in the force.
The warning came from Army Chief General Datuk Azhan Md Othman following a recent incident in which a soldier was severely beaten at the 25th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (25 RMR) camp in Bentong, Pahang last Sunday.
He stated that the suspect involved in the case will be segregated in custody and placed in the guardhouse immediately upon release from remand.
“This action is intended to prevent the suspect from mixing with other personnel while awaiting further proceedings, including disciplinary measures that will be decided by the Investigation Board,” he explained.
“Besides awaiting police investigation, the Army has already established an Investigation Board which will commence procedures immediately after the suspect is released from remand.
“Tense action will be taken against the suspect if found guilty,” General Azhan said during a press conference at the 93rd Army Day Parade, themed ‘Will to Win: Catalyst for Army Strength’, held today.
The soldier assaulted, Muhammad Amirul Raziq Rosafindi, 24, reportedly remains unconscious and dependent on a ventilator following the severe injuries sustained.
The assault is believed to have been triggered by dissatisfaction over weapons store cleaning duties, leading to Muhammad Amirul and six other soldiers being beaten.
The suspect, a corporal-ranked Untrained Officer Cadet (PTTR), allegedly used physical violence, including slapping and punching the faces and torsos of all the affected personnel.
Muhammad Amirul Raziq initially received emergency treatment at the 25 RAMD Military Medical Centre before being transferred to Bentong Hospital and is now receiving intensive care with ventilatory support at Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Temerloh, Pahang.
General Azhan added that there is no fixed timeframe for the Investigation Board to conclude the inquiry, though all procedures will be completed as swiftly as possible.
“At all levels of the Malaysian Army, reminders and directives have been issued, yet some individuals fail to control their emotions, leading to such incidents. We have never remained silent nor compromised on such behaviour, and leaders continuously monitor personnel closely,” he said.
“I will be visiting the affected soldier shortly, and let us pray that the victim recovers fully,” he added. - April 4, 2026
