CLAIMS that PKR will contest solo in the upcoming Johor State Election (PRN) are inaccurate and misleading.
PKR Secretary-General, Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, said there has been no discussion or decision made regarding PKR's move to go solo in the PRN.
"The political situation in Johor is different from the Federal level because at the national level, the government is formed through cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Unity Government, but in Johor, the state government is led by Barisan Nasional (BN), making PH the opposition bloc.
"In Johor, PH is not in the state government; we do not have representatives in local councils, village heads, or state government agencies, and it clearly shows PH's position as the opposition," she said.
Fuziah, who is also the Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, said that in that situation, PH needs to be prepared to face any possibility ahead of the next PRN, including contesting solo if the situation requires it.
"If necessary, PH can stand alone as a coalition, but that does not mean PKR will contest solo because we will remain with our friends in PH," she said.
"However, I acknowledge that the political reality in Johor currently requires PH to be prepared to face competition as the opposition. We need to be prepared to face any possibility. This is not just a matter of PKR but PH as a coalition," she said.
Recently, a portal reported that PKR is planning to contest solo in the Johor state election, which is expected to be held later this year.
On March 5, Johor PKR Chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, reportedly said the party had identified 28 seats that could potentially be contested in the Johor state election and that it had been discussed and agreed upon by the State Leadership Council (MPN). – April 18, 2026
