SELANGOR Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has expressed his willingness to defend the Gombak parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election, should the decision be made by the party leadership.
“I will defend the Gombak parliamentary seat!” he said when delivering his address at the PKR Gombak branch general meeting 2026 held on Saturday.
He stressed that his position on the matter remains firm, underscoring his commitment to continue serving the mandate given by voters in the constituency.
Amirudin also reminded party members and leaders that the current political and administrative achievements were the result of a long struggle that began in 1998, rather than efforts achieved overnight.
He further emphasised that positions and success in government should not be treated as personal privileges, but rather translated into renewed public trust through consistent service delivery.
According to him, the government’s current priority is to resolve a range of longstanding public issues under the MADANI government agenda, many of which have been left unattended for years.
Among the highlighted achievements were progress in resolving housing and settlement issues in Kampung Fajar, Kampung Barisan, and Kampung Perpaduan, which are now showing positive developments.
Amirudin also assured that stalled projects, including the Global Greening Project (Dunia Hijau Project) in Gombak Setia which has been delayed for more than a decade, are expected to be fully resolved within the year.
“The state government is also working to upgrade infrastructure in older residential areas and seeking solutions for the construction of flats in Keramat through road realignment to ensure the comfort of local residents,” he said.
Addressing political criticism from opponents, Amirudin criticised attempts by certain parties to distort national issues for personal gain, even at the expense of national sovereignty.
Citing the issue of diesel subsidy targeting, he said diesel consumption in Sabah and Sarawak is significantly higher than in Selangor, while residents in Selangor benefit from petrol prices that remain among the lowest in Southeast Asia.
He called on all party machinery to work as a united team and set aside differences to ensure that public welfare remains protected at all times.
“The administration led by party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the state government is a responsible government that works, not one that merely makes empty promises during election season,” he said. - April 19, 2026
