A WEAK earthquake measuring magnitude 3.4 was recorded in Kundasang, Sabah at 3.02am earlier today, with authorities confirming that the tremor was likely felt in surrounding areas of Ranau.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the epicentre was located at coordinates 6.1 degrees north and 116.7 degrees east, approximately eight kilometres northwest of Ranau, at a depth of 10 kilometres.
MetMalaysia said the tremor may have been felt in the Ranau area.
Following the incident, the Fire and Rescue Department in Sabah reported that initial inspections in Ranau and Kundasang found no signs of damage.
A statement from its State Operations Centre said a monitoring team from the Ranau Fire and Rescue Station conducted patrols at 6.35am covering shop premises, government buildings and public areas.
Based on information from the public and on-site observations, no structural damage was reported, and no injuries or subsequent incidents were recorded today.
The department added that monitoring efforts will continue and that it remains prepared for any possible aftershocks.
