THE country must continue strengthening its national food security system to protect farmers and ensure sufficient food supplies amid ongoing global supply uncertainties, the Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has said.

In a Facebook post following his visit to the Vietnam Academy of Fishery Sciences in Vietnam, Mohamad Sabu (or as he is better known as Mat Sabu) underscored the importance of resilience in the face of external shocks affecting food availability worldwide.

During the visit, he observed first-hand the significant role played by the institution in advancing Vietnam’s fisheries sector, particularly through a strong emphasis on research and innovation in aquaculture.

"This is a very positive development and Malaysia is also giving serious attention to strengthening this sector.

"Many things we can learn from each other. I see great potential for Malaysia and Vietnam to enhance cooperation, especially in aquaculture development, sustainable fisheries, as well as the sharing of knowledge and expertise," he said.

He expressed hope that the visit would mark the beginning of closer institutional collaboration between both countries.

Mat Sabu added that the already strong Malaysia-Vietnam relationship would continue to be reinforced, enabling both nations to better navigate global supply crises while ensuring national food security remains intact. - April 25, 2026
