THE government will introduce MyKomuter50 for 40,000 KTM Komuter users, offering savings of up to RM160 a month, while continuing the My50 pass for 300,000 Prasarana bus and rail users in the Klang Valley.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said free travel passes would also be provided to 360,000 school pupils, persons with disabilities (OKU) and children below six years old.

Tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today, Anwar said the first phase of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), connecting Kota Bharu to the Gombak Integrated Transport Terminal, was expected to begin operations in December.

He also said Malaysia and China had agreed to extend the ECRL to Rantau Panjang, further expanding the rail network.

To improve access to the service, a bus station would be built at the ECRL station in Kota Bharu. The government has also allocated RM270 million to improve stage bus services in major cities and connect 15 stations along the east coast ahead of the ECRL’s opening.

Separately, the government and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) will provide RM1.1 billion to upgrade roads serving ports and airports.

The upgrades will cover airports in Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Tawau, Sandakan and Penang, as well as the short take-off and landing facilities at Long Banga and Ba’Kelalan in Sarawak. – October 9, 2026
