A FATHER was killed and his two children injured in a serious crash at Kilometre 290 of the East Coast Expressway 2 near the Chukai toll exit in Kemaman on Saturday evening.

The victim, Rosli Yusuf, 55, died at the scene after sustaining severe internal injuries in the incident, which occurred at about 6.30pm. He had been travelling from Melaka to Kampung Payoh at the time.

Kemaman district police chief Mohd Razi Rosli said the collision involved a trailer carrying bricks, a Mitsubishi Triton pickup driven by the victim, and a sport utility vehicle.

“Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when a trailer travelling in the left lane is believed to have lost control.

“The trailer then sideswiped the pickup driven by the victim in the right lane,” he said.

He added that both vehicles subsequently struck a road barrier before veering into the opposite carriageway.

“At that moment, an SUV coming from the opposite direction failed to avoid the collision and crashed into the left side of the pickup,” he said.

The impact also caused the trailer to plunge into a ravine approximately three metres deep.

The victim’s two children, aged 15 and 23, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Hospital Kemaman for treatment. - May 3, 2026
