A PALM oil tanker overturned in Klang on Saturday afternoon, spilling its cargo across the road after the tank became detached from the vehicle while descending a bridge.

North Klang district police chief S Vijaya Rao said the incident occurred at about 1.55pm as the lorry, travelling from Rantau Panjang in Klang, was heading towards Bandar Sultan Suleiman.

“At approximately 1.55pm, the lorry was descending a bridge when the tank lock detached from the lorry head, causing the tank to fall onto the left lane of the highway slip road,” he said in a statement.

The 49-year-old male driver was unharmed and has since lodged a police report. Authorities also confirmed that a urine screening test conducted on the driver returned negative results.

Police are now seeking assistance from members of the public who may have information about the incident, urging them to contact investigating officer Insp R. Kishen Raj or report to the nearest police station.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Footage of the incident, which circulated widely on social media prior to the official statement, showed the tanker detaching abruptly and overturning, resulting in palm oil spilling across the roadway and creating hazardous driving conditions. - May 3, 2026
