A MARRIED couple has been remanded by the Magistrate’s Court Kota Bharu to assist investigations into the murder of a disabled man who died after allegedly being assaulted in Bachok last month.

The 26-year-old husband was remanded for seven days until 22 May, while his 27-year-old wife was remanded for five days until 20 May.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Fakhrul Razzi Abd Hamid to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The couple arrived at the court complex at about 8.45am dressed in lock-up attire, handcuffed and accompanied by police officers.

The latest arrests come after the same court on Friday granted an extension of remand for two other male suspects, both aged 25, for a further six days until Wednesday in connection with the same investigation.

The case stems from an incident on 15 April involving Muhammad Zakir Fikry Mohd Zainal, a 20-year-old man with a learning disability, who was believed to have died following a violent assault at Ladang Merdeka Cherbu in Padang Lati, Bachok.

The victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at 12.55am while receiving treatment at Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia in Kubang Kerian.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault are ongoing. - May 16, 2026
