BARISAN Nasional (BN) Johor has denied the authenticity of a list of candidate names for the Johor State Election (PRN) that went viral on social media since yesterday evening.

Johor BN Secretary Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman said the list is fake and deliberately designed by irresponsible parties to spark speculation and confuse party members.

He said the process of selecting candidates to contest in all 56 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats has not been finalised by the BN top leadership.

"I ask all parties, especially BN members and supporters, not to be influenced by the list that has gone viral. It is purely fabricated. Our (BN) focus now is to streamline the machinery at the grassroots level," he said as reported by Bernama.

Abdul Halim said any official announcement regarding BN candidates in the 16th Johor state election will only be made through the party's official channels at the appropriate time.

Earlier, a list of BN candidates who are said to be contesting in 56 state seats, including the name of the incumbent for the Machap state seat, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, went viral.

Previously, Deputy Prime Minister and BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the list of candidates submitted to him would be finalised after he held discussions with the leaders of BN component parties.

The Johor state assembly was dissolved recently to make way for the 16th state election, which will see BN contesting in all 56 seats. – June 3, 2026
