PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and his predecessor, Lim Guan Eng, the Air Putih assemblyman, came together today to address infrastructure issues plaguing the latter's constituency.
Chow made his maiden visit to the Air Putih constituency, with Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Lord Mayor Datuk Anthony Rajendran, council secretary Cheong Chee Hong, as well as Bukit Bendera Member of Parliament Syerleena Abdul Rashid.
In the past, both Chow and Lim had clashed over a range of issues in the state, with the former once asking Lim to sit down during a state legislative assembly sitting.
But today, both DAP leaders were all smiles, especially with the MBPP's commitment to address two pertinent issues in the constituency, which is part of the Air Itam enclave, one of the highest-density areas on the island.
They visited the Jalan Goh Guan Ho entrance with a pledge to upgrade the drainage issue there by enlarging the monsoon drainage with a large culvert box.
It will help ease the flash flood concerns among the residents there, as well as those in Taman Lumba Kuda and the nearby La Salle Primary School.
Later, the group also visited the Jalan Boundary and Lintang Sempadan junction to erect a connecting road to ease traffic conditions in the dense neighbourhood.
Lim, a three-term Air Putih assemblyman, has been rather critical of the state in recent weeks, stepping up his queries on the Batu Kawan Industrial Park II project under the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) and the Jelutong landfill rehabilitation and reclamation.
Lim questioned whether there was a move to award a direct tender for the Jelutong landfill reclamation project, and insisted that a direct tender occurred despite Chow's clarification.
Chow has proceeded to rebut most of the posers from Lim through the media and the assembly sitting. - June 8, 2026.
