A FEMALE teacher was charged in the Magistrate's Court in Batu Pahat today on charges of injuring a female student by throwing a whiteboard eraser at her, causing swelling near her eye.

The accused, Fakhriah Bustani, 47, who was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno.

She was charged with intentionally causing injury to a seven-year-old student at a national school in Tongkang Pecah, at 9 am, April 1.

Section 323 provides for a prison sentence of up to one year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both if convicted.

Prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Firdaus Ruslan, while the accused was represented by Normaahani Rais from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).

The court allowed the accused bail of RM1,500, and the case will be mentioned again on August 21 for the submission of documents.

Based on the report, the victim returned home and informed that a teacher, who was also the accused, threw a whiteboard eraser at her, and it hit her near the eye.
