FORMER Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was touched to receive numerous greetings and messages in conjunction with his 101st birthday on Friday.
Through a video post on Facebook, he expressed his appreciation and thanked everyone who sent messages and greeting cards in conjunction with his special day.
“Assalamualaikum and good morning. I would like to thank everyone who sent messages regarding my 101st birthday today.
“On the 10th day of the month (July), I turned 101 years old, and I received many birthday cards and happy birthday wishes. I would like to thank everyone,” he said.
In the video, Dr Mahathir was also accompanied by his beloved wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, who will celebrate her 100th birthday on July 12.
Mahathir was born on July 10, 1925, in Kampung Seberang Perak, Alor Setar, Kedah.
His marriage with Siti Hasmah has now reached 70 years, and the couple is blessed with seven children, namely Marina, Mirzan, Melinda, Mokhzani, Mukhriz, Maizura and Mazhar.
Mahathir was the fourth Prime Minister, starting July 16, 1981 and led the country for 22 years.
During his administration, various mega projects were developed, including the Penang Bridge, Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), Putrajaya Administrative Centre and Sepang International Circuit.
Dr Mahathir once again made history when he was appointed as the seventh Prime Minister after his political coalition won the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018.
Earlier this year, he was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) after suffering a fractured right hip due to a fall at his residence in The Mines, Seri Kembangan.
He is currently undergoing a recovery process, and most recently, the statesman spent time with the people in Langkawi. – July 10, 2026
