THE Ferrari driver who was allegedly assaulted by a Perodua Aruz driver in a road rage incident on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) has urged the man to reflect on his actions and consider the consequences for his family.
Businessman Tiang How Soon, 40, said the incident did not involve any collision between the two vehicles and could have been settled through a conversation instead of escalating into a physical confrontation.
He said the incident had left his four-year-old child shaken, adding that the other driver’s child, who was also in the vehicle, may have been affected by what happened.
“I saw that he had his family and young child in the car too. He could have just spoken to me. For a small matter like this, if someone ends up being jailed because he assaulted another person, is it worth it? His family will suffer too.
“I cannot comment much because the police are still investigating. As a father and someone with a family, I do not want this matter to create problems for his family,” he told reporters at a press conference at the DAPSY Selangor Public Complaints Bureau today.
Tiang said he was travelling to Melaka with his wife and child as part of a convoy when they fell behind after stopping at a petrol station.
He claimed he was driving at around 120km/h before moving from the right lane to the middle lane after a vehicle ahead stopped suddenly.
“I tried to brake, but I was worried I would not be able to stop in time and hit the vehicle in front. To avoid a bigger accident, I changed lanes. I checked my side mirror and saw the Aruz was still about two to three car lengths away.
“I stopped in the middle lane, and when his car arrived, there was no accident. But he became angry and started shouting at my passenger side. I tried to explain that I had changed lanes because a vehicle had stopped suddenly, but he continued to be angry,” he said.
Tiang said he asked the driver to calm down as his young child was frightened, but the situation worsened when he stepped out of his vehicle to explain.
“He was angry and used abusive words. I told him not to behave that way because I had a child in the car. When I got out, some people tried to help, but he suddenly attacked me. He kicked me and punched me in the face,” he claimed.
The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared online, sparked various reactions, including criticism towards Tiang and the car enthusiast community.
Tiang said he decided to speak up to clarify that there was no street racing or reckless driving involved, claiming he was only trying to avoid a more serious accident.
He added that he had attempted to resolve the matter through discussion, but claimed the other driver was too emotional and acted aggressively.
Earlier, police said they were tracing the Perodua Aruz driver believed to be involved in the altercation after the incident went viral.
Nilai district police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya was reported to have said police received a report on the incident at 6.40 pm from one of the drivers involved. – August 9, 2026
