PUTRAJAYA – Tan Sri Annuar Musa today revealed that there is “black and white” support for opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim among those in Umno to topple the Perikatan Nasional administration.

He said attempts and negotiations involve DAP have been ongoing in what is known as the Formation of a New Political Alignment (Pembentukan Jajaran Baru Politik).

These, he said, are among seven reasons that compelled the Ketereh Umno head to fiercely defend his political stand and principles.

Presenting documented evidence, including a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, among others, Annuar alleged that Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, as well as several Umno Supreme Council members, had continuously attempted to topple the PN government.

The crisis in Umno was triggered by an announcement by Anwar last September in which he had said that he had obtained a “strong, formidable and convincing” majority to form the government.

Around the same time, Zahid had in a statement said many MPs from his party were behind Anwar and that the party would not prevent any of its lawmakers from supporting the opposition leader in forming a new government.

However, after a letter with the Umno letterhead pledging support for Anwar purportedly signed by Zahid and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak surfaced, the party’s Supreme Council then decided to apply the “No Anwar, No DAP” policy and pledged en bloc cooperation with PN.

Umno has since continued to cite dissatisfaction over having to continuously play second fiddle to Bersatu, led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. – The Vibes, January 6, 2021
