PKR women’s wing chief Nurhidayah Che Rose has questioned Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s latest call for Barisan Nasional to either leave the unity government or have Parliament dissolved.
She said the Umno president’s position appeared at odds with his earlier assurance that BN remained committed to maintaining political stability until the end of the parliamentary term.
“Only a few days ago, he stressed that BN was committed to ensuring political stability until the end of the term. Today, his tone is different,” Nurhidayah said in a statement today.
She said political stability should not be used as leverage in negotiations between parties.
“If national stability is truly the priority, it should not be turned into political bargaining,” she said.
Nurhidayah said Malaysians were more concerned about issues affecting their daily lives than political manoeuvring over who might leave the government, withdraw support or seek to bring down the administration.
She said the government should instead remain focused on the cost of living, employment, education, healthcare, housing and the economy.
Political differences should be dealt with maturely, she added, without placing the country’s stability at risk for partisan interests.
“People do not wake up thinking about who wants to leave the government or when Parliament will be dissolved.
“They wake up thinking about the price of goods, their family income and their children’s future,” she said.
Nurhidayah urged political leaders to keep those concerns at the centre of their priorities rather than allowing partisan calculations to dominate the national agenda. - September 13, 2025
