THE Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has filed an appeal against the Shah Alam High Court’s decision to acquit and discharge a 15-year-old boy accused of murdering his 16-year-old schoolmate at a secondary school in Bandar Utama last year.
In a statement, the AGC said it filed the notice of appeal at the Court of Appeal on Sept 22 after considering the High Court’s decision.
“After considering the decision of the Shah Alam High Court judge, the department filed a notice of appeal at the Court of Appeal on Sept 22 to appeal against the decision to acquit and discharge the accused,” it said.
The High Court had ordered the teenager to enter his defence on Aug 13 after finding that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against him.
The court later acquitted and discharged him after finding that he was mentally unsound when the offence was committed.
The teenager was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with murdering the 16-year-old girl in a women’s toilet at the school between 9.20am and 9.35am on Oct 14, 2025.
The victim was reported to have suffered about 180 stab wounds.
Section 97(1) of the Child Act 2001 provides that the death penalty cannot be imposed on a person who was a child when the offence was committed. - September 24, 2026
