FIFTEEN families from Block D of Damai Perdana Flats in Cheras remain housed at a temporary relief centre as authorities await a structural safety assessment before deciding whether residents can return home following a slope collapse near the building.
Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) councillor for Zone 6, Tan Kah Hoe, said the Public Works Department (JKR) Forensic Unit was at the site yesterday to assess the condition of the building's structure.
He said the local authority was awaiting the assessment report, which would help determine the cause of the incident and whether the building was safe for occupation.
“So far, there is no decision yet on the cause of the incident.
“We are waiting for the assessment report to determine whether the building is safe to occupy or not,” he said today.
Kah Hoe said the number of families staying at the temporary relief centre at Dewan Orang Ramai Desa Baiduri had increased to 15 as of yesterday, from four previously.
All the affected families are residents of the block.
“The registration process is also being carried out to identify the needs of the affected families.
“For now, accommodation and food for the affected residents are being managed by the Social Welfare Department (JKM). Police are also assisting with security at the affected homes to ensure the safety of the area,” he said.
Earlier, about 80 residents from 45 units at Block D were ordered to evacuate as a precautionary measure following the slope collapse near the building on Tuesday night.
The incident involved an embankment about 4.57 metres high. An initial inspection by the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) found that water was still flowing at the site, but no casualties were reported.
The possibility that a leaking pipe contributed to the slope collapse is also being investigated by the Minerals and Geoscience Department of Malaysia (JMG), while the structural safety assessment is being carried out with other relevant technical agencies. - September 24, 2026
