SIX areas in Johor and Sarawak recorded unhealthy air quality as of 8am today, with Kota Tinggi recording the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 164.
According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), four areas in Johor breached the unhealthy threshold — Kota Tinggi (164), Pasir Gudang (163), Pengerang (161) and Larkin (156).
In Sarawak, IPD Serian recorded an API reading of 151, while Sri Aman recorded 126.
API readings between 101 and 200 are classified as unhealthy, while readings of 201 to 300 are categorised as very unhealthy and those above 300 as hazardous.
Meanwhile, 55 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality, with Kuching recording the highest reading in the category at 98.
Other areas with relatively high moderate readings included Rompin, Pahang (87); Samarahan, Sarawak (86); Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (82); and Batu Pahat, Johor (81).
Shah Alam, Selangor, and Paka, Terengganu, each recorded 75, followed by Bintulu, Sarawak (75), Kemaman, Terengganu (74) and Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (74).
Seven areas recorded good air quality — Alor Setar, Kedah (42); Kota Bharu, Kelantan (39); Kangar, Perlis (37); Temerloh, Pahang (35); Besut, Terengganu (35); Tanah Merah, Kelantan (33); and Langkawi, Kedah (26).
API readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and above 300 hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide. -September 27, 2026
