THE government's response to rising military tensions in the Asia-Pacific, particularly measures to protect Malaysia's security and ASEAN stability, will be among the key issues raised in the Dewan Rakyat today.
According to the Order Paper published on Parliament's website, William Leong Jee Keen (PH-Selayang) will ask the Defence Minister to explain the government's position on escalating military tensions in the region and the steps being taken to safeguard national security.
He will also seek clarification on how Malaysia intends to help preserve regional stability within ASEAN amid the developments.
University governance following the abolition of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU) will also come under scrutiny, with Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN-Bera) seeking assurances that the move will not create legal gaps or uncertainty in university administration.
He will also ask the Higher Education Minister to outline the key principles underpinning the proposed One Higher Education Act.
Meanwhile, Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN-Kuala Krai) will seek the Prime Minister's explanation on mechanisms to prevent misleading badal haji (performing the haj pilgrimage on behalf of another person) advertisements from reaching the public.
He will ask whether the government intends to introduce preliminary screening of advertisers' identities, company status, licences, payment recipient accounts and claims concerning the performance of the pilgrimage on behalf of others.
Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) will meanwhile seek an update on the implementation of recommendations by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji.
He will ask whether 25 per cent of the recommendations have been implemented, as well as the timeline and action plan for carrying out the remaining proposals.
Following the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will continue committee-stage debates on the Supply Bill 2027 and the Development Expenditure Estimates for 2027.
The committee-stage proceedings, including ministerial winding-up sessions, are scheduled to continue until Nov 26. - November 4, 2026
