LABUAN – A 36-year-old lorry driver here is believed to have died by suicide after a bottle of bleach was found next to his body, police said.

The island's police chief, Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Ghani, said the man was found at 7.24pm on Monday at a house near Kg Sg Keling here.

Neighbours had last seen the man alive last Saturday.

"The police were alerted by neighbours, who caught a foul smell coming from the man's room," Ibrahim said in a statement late yesterday.

The man's body was found on his bed with the bottle of bleach next to it when police arrived.

Police have classified the case as sudden death while the man's remains have been sent for post-mortem.

In another case, a Filipino labourer is believed to have died of electrocution at the Kg Saguking refugee settlement here.

Police received a report at 2.56am on Tuesday that a man was found unconscious on a wooden bridge inside the settlement.

The 26-year-old was a Filipino migrant in possession of a MyKad.

Residents at the settlement found the man unconscious about 11pm on Monday.

He was then taken to hospital and confirmed dead by doctors, with electrocution being the probable cause of death. Burn marks were found on the victim's body.

Police noted that there are live-wire cables connecting an electrical source into the migrant settlement.

The case has also been classified as sudden death. – The Vibes, January 14, 2021
