MIRI – Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department has deployed teams to help clean up flood-hit housing areas in Kuching.
So far, they are ordered to clean roads, schools, places of worship, community halls and even houses after flood waters have receded.
Department director Khirudin Drahman today led the clean-up operations in three populated areas hit by floods in the Kuching district.
He and his team were at Kg Rantau Panjang, Kg Sinar Budi, and Kg Sg Tengah to help residents clean up mud and debris left behind by the floods over the past few days.
Khirudin told reporters that Sarawak Bomba is working with the local councils and community bodies to carry out these operations.
“We will also help to clean homes of the elderly, handicapped, the blind and bedridden.
“Those needing assistance from us should liaise with their village heads so we can plan our schedule.”
Khirudin said there are many locations where the mud left behind are up to one feet deep.
The Bomba teams use water pressure jets and digging equipment in their operations.
As of noon today, there are still 1,208 residents from 342 families in the districts of Kuching, Serian, and Miri who are still in flood relief centres. – The Vibes, January 17, 2021
