MIRI – All public social events will be cancelled in Sarawak as the number of new Covid-19 cases exceeded the 200 mark.
The state recorded a total of 203 cases today, its highest daily count to date.
The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said in a press statement that Sibu remains the worst-hit zone.
“Out of the 203 new Covid-19 cases today, Sibu topped the list with 120 cases, followed by Kanowit (43), Kuching (12), Betong (8), Bintulu (5), Samarahan (5), Miri (4), Dalat (3) and one each in Kapit, Pakan and Serian.
“There are eight active clusters statewide, the biggest being the Pasai cluster in Sibu.
“Hence, all public social gatherings are cancelled indefinitely.
“All authorities at district levels must enforce this strictly,” said the secretariat.
The latest increase in Covid-19 cases sees Sibu Hospital tending to 841 patients, Miri Hospital to 282, Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching to 132, Bintulu Hospital to 62 and Limbang Hospital to one.
