BUKIT MERTAJAM – Following news of Pulau Aman’s poor Internet connectivity, officials from the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and state government will be looking into the problem.
Village community management council chairman Saibi Abd Majid said he was grateful when he got a call from MCMC a few hours after the news of the lack of Internet access was published.
He told The Vibes that Pulau Aman was visited by several MCMC officers and state leaders this morning.
“Through the survey, the MCMC conducted a signal inspection and was found there was Internet coverage from several telecommunication companies with relatively low access.
“A telecommunication tower will be built on the island after a land issue is resolved. The signal from an existing tower is weak as it is directed towards the Second Penang Bridge and Batu Kawan instead of the island.
“At the same time, I was also informed that MCMC will request telecommunication companies that offer services on the island to review their Internet network, especially to increase their coverage.”
Saibi said he is grateful to the media for helping to solve a long-standing problem, especially when the classes are conducted online.
Yesterday The Vibes reported that about 30 students on Pulau Aman face difficulties continuing their education online during the movement control order due to a lack of Internet access, despite Penang’s developed state status.
This prompted them to use their own initiative to ensure their schooling continues.
One of the students, Nur Alea Sofiyyah Ahmad Hanif, 16, said she had to go to Hujung Tanjung, which is located at the end of the cape, to get stable Internet connection whenever she has an important school assignment.
It is understood that state Infrastructure and Transport committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari will issue an official statement on this matter. – The Vibes, January 23, 2021
