KOTA KINABALU – Come February 27, Sarawak will begin its vaccination drive against Covid-19 using the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
State Health Director Dr Chin Zin Hing said 56 government hospitals and clinics throughout Sarawak will provide the vaccine.
“The vaccination starts on February 27 and the first phase will be for the frontliners.
“They include health and medical personnel, police, army and all other agencies that are at the frontlines of the fight against the pandemic,” he told a press conference in Kuching.
Dr Chin said two doses will be injected for each person. The second dose will be given 21 days after the first dose.
The second phase of vaccination will be for vulnerable groups like those with health complications and the elderly, while the third is for the general public.
State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Dougglas Uggah said there were 246 new positive infections statewide today.
Sibu recorded 171 cases, Kapit (22), Julau (21), Samarahan (12), Kuching (6), Miri (5) and several other districts, one or two new cases.
There are still 16 active clusters throughout the state today.
Sibu Hospital is treating 910 Covid-19 patients, Miri Hospital 361, Kapit Hospital 162, Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching 136, Bintulu Hospital 138, Sarikei Hospital 76, Limbang and Saratok hospitals two each and Sri Aman and Lawas hospitals one each. – The Vibes, February 15, 2021
