KUALA LUMPUR – The decision by Julau MP Larry Sng to support Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s Perikatan Nasional (PN) government today received much flak from his followers on social media.
Sng announced his resignation as Sarawak PKR chief to become a government-friendly independent MP in a statement on his Facebook page, and the post mainly received condemnation from netizens.
Facebook user Gabriel Wan posted: “You are a smart frog YB that you jumped at the correct time, but it will be very difficult for you to win Julau come next general election as the people of Julau already know you are a smart frog.”
Another user Anson Liow questioned whether Sng’s move would make Julau the richest constituency in the country.
“Sorry cause I don’t get your b***s***.”
However, other followers of Sng’s Facebook page felt that the move by him was expected.
Facebook user Raymond Galan said: “We knew it (would) come to this end..we know why (you) made such an action...don’t worry voters in Julau will always remember what (you) did today for giving you their vote instead you became traitor...well done.”
Meanwhile, Mfikri Kay Abdullah wrote: “This is not surprising to me....I will be more surprised if (you) stayed long(er) in PKR...ever since you had so many parties to join before...anyway, I hope Julau people will get the best from this...”
Additionally, Facebook user Kenny Sia expressed understanding with Sng’s decision.
“Well who wouldn’t be disappointed when someone said they have ‘strong, convincing numbers’ and end up not being able to pass a confidence test?”

In his statement, Sng said Muhyiddin is doing what is necessary to help Malaysians in this difficult time expressing belief that he too should play a role to support him.
“There has been too much political instability over the past one year and this has damaged the country’s economy and the people’s wellbeing.
“I truly believe that the best way forward is to put politics aside for now, so that we can help stabilise and rebuild our beloved country together.
“Too much time has already been wasted, politicking and bickering whilst the people suffer.”
Describing Julau as one of the poorest constituencies in the country, Sng said people are suffering because of the economic impact of the pandemic, loss of jobs and income from low commodity prices.
“I have been unable to serve Julau effectively through lack of much needed development funds, which is badly needed.
“With this move today, I am confident that I will be able to deliver my election promises to my electorate.
“I won the 2018 election as an independent and now I declare myself as a government-friendly independent,” he said.
Sng and Tebrau MP Steven Choong were the two PKR MPs to leave the party and declare support for the Perikatan Nasional government today.
