MIRI – Sarawak PKR has lodged a police report over a purported announcement circulating in party chat groups and social media claiming to have found a new state chairman to succeed Julau MP Larry Sng.
State PKR information head Abun Sui Anyit told The Vibes such claims are fake, and went on to lodge a report at the Miri Central police station today.
Neither he nor any party leader has issued any announcement on a new state chief to replace Sng, he added.
“Yesterday, the fake announcement was circulated in many chat groups (involving) our grassroots members and branches, (stating) that a new state chief has already been identified to fill the vacancy left by the sudden resignation of Larry Sng.
“The fake claim said that I issued a public statement in my capacity as information and communication head in Sarawak PKR.
“I lodged a police report yesterday evening at Miri Central police station against those who misused my name... to issue the fake announcement.”
On who was behind the fake announcement, Abun said he had some idea but “will leave it to the police to investigate”.
As for who is in charge of Sarawak PKR now, Abun said the state PKR’s council of elders will take the lead in the interim.
“While we await the start of the process of finding a new state chairman, this council of elders will make all official decisions on behalf of Sarawak PKR.”
Sng quit as state PKR chairman post and left the party late on Saturday night.
On Sunday, he posted his support for Perikatan Nasional on Facebook and that he would now be a PN-friendly independent.
He said that in PKR, he could not “find enough funds to develop Julau, which is the poorest constituency in Malaysia”.
Sng took over as Sarawak PKR chief in December 2019 after former works minister Baru Bian left the party due to internal leadership struggles.
Sng was president of the Sarawak Workers Party since 2012 before he left to helm Sarawak PKR in 2019. – The Vibes, March 2, 2021
