KOTA KINABALU – Parti Warisan Sabah has submitted a resignation letter by Sebatik assemblyman Hassan A. Gani Pg Amir, which he pre-emptively signed prior to the state polls last September, to the state speaker.

The “pre-signed” letter, as Warisan calls it, was handed over by secretary-general Datuk Loretto Padua to the speaker’s office at 12.15pm today.

Copies of the letter are expected to be delivered to the state governor and Election Commission.

On Thursday, Hassan announced his departure from the party and voiced support for state ruling coalition Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, as well as the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Md Noor – both of them Bersatu men.

In response, Warisan yesterday produced a video of Hassan, recorded before the state election, in which he pledges to step down as rep should he quit the party.

Party president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said Hassan must keep to his word, saying the latter “pre-signed” his resignation letter at the same time the video was recorded ahead of the state polls.

Hassan took to Facebook to say he was forced to sign the letter, and that if he had refused to do so, he would not have been named a Warisan candidate in the September 26 vote.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Putatan MP Awang Husaini Sahari today dismissed a news portal’s report that he will leave PKR.

He said the allegation is baseless and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

“I do not know where they got the information from… but I am grateful because they have made me ‘popular’,” he was quoted as saying.

He urged Sabah PKR members, especially those in his constituency, not to believe the claim, saying it is intended to split the party.

The allegation comes after two PKR MPs, namely Larry Sng and Steven Choong, expressed support for the Perikatan Nasional administration.  – The Vibes, March 2, 2021
