KOTA KINABALU – Stall operators at the local general market in Kota Kinabalu are up in arms over a City Hall notice instructing them to clear their unauthorised structures within the next two days.
The local government had prior to this, notified all stall operators to clear the modifications made to their stalls but when it was time to implement this directive, the stall operators refused to do it.
The Vibes learnt that the stall operators had voiced their grievances to Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin.
Chan said that the two-week clearance notice was too short a time for stall operators to undertake.

“I hope city hall will take a much more considerate approach in dealing with problems among stall operators as they are from the low income group.
“I urge city hall to engage with these operators to resolve the matter,” he said.
According to mayor Noorliza Alip, the structures narrowed the aisle making it almost impossible to practice physical distancing.
“Furthermore, much of the structures were also treated like rubbish bins with trash accumulated over the years,” she said.
“This is the scenario we want to change,” she said. – The Vibes, March 4, 2021
