MIRI – A new Covid-19 cluster has emerged following a prayer session at a Kg Melor mosque in Pusa district, southern Sarawak.

The index case is a 23-year-old woman, said the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat today.

However, it did not disclose the date and time of the prayer session. 

“The woman tested positive after attending the prayer session. So far, 14 others who attended have been infected.

“Contact tracing and screening are under way for other attendees.”

There were no new coronavirus fatalities reported today, keeping the state’s death toll at 89, while another 199 infections were registered.

Sibu district has the highest daily surge with 41 cases, followed by Kapit and Kuching (33 each), Miri (22), Song (19) and other districts (fewer than 10).

There are 27 active clusters in the state.

Sibu Hospital is treating 989 Covid-19 patients, followed by Miri Hospital (367), Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching (310), Bintulu Hospital (297), Kapit Hospital (181), Sarikei Hospital (130), Betong Hospital (187) and Sri Aman Hospital (14). – The Vibes, March 10, 2021
