GEORGE TOWN – The upcoming 15th general election (GE15) is set to be a challenging one for any political party, says Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

“The voters are tired and disappointed with the current political scenario,” he said in a social media posting which was shared with the media here today. His remarks were made ahead of the state DAP convention and elections this Sunday at the SPICE convention centre in Sungai Ara here.

“We have witnessed a huge political shift in the last General Election in 2018, followed by the betrayal of the people’s mandate,” said Chow.

The veteran politician – who is also the national DAP vice-chairman, in addition to being the Chief Minister of Penang – added that the people are also witnessing party-hopping politicians in Malaysia who chose to be part of a backdoor government.

Describing such politicians as rewarding their voters with betrayals instead of service and honesty, the outcome is that the political instability remains until today – and DAP must first acknowledge this issue, he stressed.

“We are working hard to regain the voters’ confidence towards our party and our coalition (Pakatan Harapan) at the Federal level. In Penang, we must not take it for granted that the people will give us the mandate in the coming general election,” the chairman said.

“Whatever it is, we must not lose hope. The party’s 55-year journey is not an easy one. We have grown from an Opposition party in the past, to a party with the greatest number of seats (42 seats) in the Dewan Rakyat now.

“We have survived in the political arena back in those days and we have earned the support of the people who understand our struggle. We represent the voice of the people in difficulty and the elected representatives from DAP comprised almost every race in this country. This is the beauty of our party,” Chow added. – The Vibes, March 18, 2021c
