MIRI – Three youths are believed to be trapped inside a former goldmine in Gunung Tabai in Bau district, southern Sarawak.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department has launched a major search-and-rescue operation.
As at 11.30am, the search team is on scene and is making its way down the mine shaft.
The department said villagers at the foot of the mountain reported seeing three youths scaling the mountain about 9am today.
“The villagers alerted the Bau Fire and Rescue Department when they found out that one of the youths could have been buried alive with the two others stuck inside the mining hole.
“The mine is a prohibited zone,” the department said.
At least 10 rescue personnel are at the scene as at noon. – The Vibes, March 24, 2021
