MIRI – Sarawak saw three more Covid-19 deaths today, along with 589 new infections and four new clusters.
The deaths – consisting of a 35-year old man in Sibu Hospital, a 72-year old woman in Miri Hospital, and a 77-year old man in Bintulu Hospital – takes the death toll to 140, said the state Disaster Management Committee (DMC) secretariat.
Expressing condolences to the family of the deceased, the secretariat said in a press statement that the infections and fatalities are still escalating.
Of the new cases, Sibu district recorded the most new positive infections (133), Bintulu (99), Mukah (82), Kapit (72), Kuching (44), Sarikei (31), Miri (30), Meradong (16), Tatau (16), Sri Aman (13), Selangau (11), and numerous other districts (below 10 new cases each).
The four new clusters found are the Sg Anus Cluster in Selangau district (39 positive cases); Sg Selutut Cluster in Tatau district (18 cases); Sg Passin Cluster in Matu (49 cases); and Sg Duan Cluster in Mukah (89 cases).
These clusters involved people in longhouses and in training institutions. There are now 49 active clusters statewide.
The secretariat said that the state will not just shut down all schools in the 17 red-zone districts but also pre-schools, kindergartens, colleges, universities, and tuition centres for the next two weeks.
